Am I Too Harsh?

I just sent a scathing (OK not that scathing) email to these people regarding the "information" on their site.
Why am I pissed?

These 2 blurbs:
"We're not here to rip you off, we are here to pass our low overhead and volume ordering discounts on to you. Why would you go to the store and pay $300 - $500 more for a surfboard when you don't need to?
We couldn't think of a good answer either. That's why we started Stoked Surfboards."

I didn't realize that surfshops were "ripping people off".

"We thought it just wasn't right that the surf shops were charging so much for a new piece of fiberglass and foam called a surfboard. Neither of these things cost much money, why did a surfboard cost so much? OVERHEAD!"

Really? The materials for a board alone are almost $150. At the prices they're charging, the left over $165 for a shortboard has to cover shaping, glassing, sanding, polishing, airbrushing, shipping, factory overhead, employees who know what they're doing, advertising, and store overhead. Surfshops make almost no profit on boards, they make profits on accessories and clothes.

How can they beat that? Oh, yeah, shaping machines and 3rd world labor rates without regard for environmental protections such as we have in the USA.

They look like nice enough people, but I doubt that their motivation is to help other surfers keep from getting "ripped off". If thst's the case, then I guess that's Costco's motivation too.
Their real motivation is to turn a quick buck at the expense of people who invest a lifetime of unsung blood, sweat, and tears, and those "consumers" who are ignorant of how a board comes to life. Surfboards (to me) are more than a commodity to be bought and sold like future landfill Happy Meals.


So I told them so in the email. Too harsh, or not harsh enough?
